Title 24-JA8 Certification

Title 24-JA8 certification is a set of California Energy Commission (CEC) standards that refer to energy efficiency and lighting quality, in residential and commercial new construction settings.

This type of standards are essential to ensure that the lighting systems installed in a specific building are energy efficient, providing a superior quality of light.

In any case, it should be specified that this is a certification recognized only in the State of California!

Title24-JA8 ensures that systems comply with what is stated above. There are several goals:

• to reduce energy consumption through the use of highly effective light sources, improving the overall efficiency of buildings;
• ensure that light sources provide good light quality, including criteria such as color rendering index (CRI), color consistency, and flicker reduction;
• promote the use of lighting technologies that contribute to a lower environmental impact.

• the Color Rendering Index (CRI) must be above 90, ensuring excellent color rendering;
• systems must have a flicker rate of less than 30 per cent under all operating conditions.

Products must be tested for compliance at accredited laboratories that verify the above conditions as required by the California Energy Commission (CEC).

The results are sent to the CEC accompanied by any possible detailed documentation. Following approval, products are registered in the CEC databases and labelled “JA8-2016” or “JA8-2016-E” (for those suitable for high temperatures in closed luminaries).
